Ferromanganese: an alloy of iron and manganese. Main categories: High Carbon Ferromanganese (containing 7% carbon) , Medium Carbon Ferromanganese (containing 1.0 ~ 1.5% carbon) , low carbon ferromanganese (containing 0.5% carbon) , metal manganese, mirror iron, silicon manganese alloy.
In steelmaking, used as deoxidizer and alloy additives, is the largest amount of ferroalloy. The manganese ore for Ferromanganese smelting should contain 30 ~ 40% manganese, the ratio of Ferromanganese is more than 7, the ratio of phosphorus to manganese is less than 0.003. Before smelting, the manganese carbonate ore must be roasted first, and the fine ore must be sintered and lumped. The ore with high iron and phosphorus content can only be used together, or the manganese-rich slag with low iron and low phosphorus can be obtained by selective reduction. Coke is used as reducing agent in smelting, and some factories also match lean coal or anthracite. The main auxiliary raw material is lime, when smelting manganese-silicon alloy, silica is usually added. The general international standard of Carbon Ferromanganese is 75 ~ 80% manganese. To adapt to the raw material condition of low grade manganese ore, China has stipulated the grade of low manganese (over 65% manganese in electric furnace ferromanganese and over 50% manganese in blast furnace Ferromanganese) . In the past, blast furnaces were mainly used for smelting carbon ferromanganese. With the development of electric power industry, the use of electric furnaces increased gradually. Blast furnaces are mainly used in western Europe and China, electric furnaces are used in Norway and Japan, and electric furnaces are also used in new Ferromanganese factories in the Soviet Union, Australia and Brazil.
